NORTHWEST
HARMONY CHORUS
Northwest Harmony is a chorus of dynamic ladies singing a capella
4-part harmony in the barbershop style - which is one of the truly
American musical artforms! The chorus and its quartets perform throughout
the year for private and public events.
Northwest Harmony was chartered in Vancouver by Sweet Adelines International
in 1997. Our members come from our communities and love the challenge
and joy of singing and performing this unique style of music.
We come from a wide range of vocal and performance experience. Our
members are businesswomen, scientists, teachers, students, retirees,
and homemakers.
Membership in Northwest Harmony provides friendships with other
singers as well as a myriad of opportunities to learn and grow both
personally and musically.
Rehearsals are
Monday evenings, 7:00-9:30pm. Please check our "rehearsals"
page for directions and a map.
We gladly invite women singers to come join us for a rehearsal.
Guests will get the opportunity to learn more about this truly American
artform. It's exciting, fun, and absolutely thrilling to ring those
tight chords!

ABOUT
THE MUSIC
We
sing four-part a capella (unaccompanied) music. Our repertoire
includes great
old favorites written in the early 1900's, along with jazz standards,
patriotic tunes,
exciting Broadway numbers and beautiful ballads.
We sing unaccompanied, with four voice parts:
- Tenor,
the highest part, generally is sung above the melody.
- Lead,
one of the 2 middle parts, is generally the melody and the
most
easily recognized by listeners.
- Baritone,
also a middle part, is harmony both above and below below
the melody.
- Bass,
the lowest part, is harmony sung below the melody.
This
wide range of voice parts offers women with high or low voices
a comfortable part to sing.

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION
Do you have the talent and desire to become a member of the Northwest
Harmony Chorus? We hope so, because we want to share the joy of
a cappella singing with you!
Membership in Northwest Harmony provides friendships with other
singers as well as opportunities to learn and grow. Sweet Adelines
International is first and foremost an educational organization,
and we have some of the best local, regional and national vocal
coaches available to us. You'll learn music theory, vocal interpretation
and delivery, performance guidelines and how to establish audience
rapport. You can increase your knowledge about staging, costuming,
choreography, makeup and how to emcee.
Do you have an interest or experience you'd like to share, such
as in leadership, finance, public relations or marketing? There
are many ways to get involved, with variety enough for everyone's
taste. You are encouraged to participate at your own level of
enthusiasm, desire and availability.
Northwest
Harmony would love to help you achieve your goal of becoming a
member. Together we can make it a reality! If you would like to
speak to a member of the chorus who can answer more of your questions
or talk about the audition process, please do not wait one more
minute. We want to share the joys of barbershop singing with you,
right now!
